The foundation of the Operator Rigid Collar 2.0 is 2″ mil-spec Heavy Scuba Webbing. Atop this first layer, Modern Icon sewn 1 3/4″ mil-spec Webbing rated at 7,000 lbs as well as 1″ mil-spec webbing rate at 4,000 lbs to stiffen the design and add the additional strength and support required by our most demanding customers. This rigid design allows the handler to use the body of the collar to apply pressure to the points behind the ears to manually “out” their dog from a bite if he becomes unresponsive to your commands.
The collar has a 1″ ISC Klick-Lock buckle rated to 2,600 lbs in the otherwise 2″ wide design to provide an added measure of security preventing accidental un-clipping when the collar is grabbed at the buckle, yet still allows the collar to be quickly un-clipped in an emergency. A large V-Ring clip in point is strength rated to 6,000 lbs. It can be clipped with any commercially available attachment option including large diameter climbing carabiners. A large Velcro panel gives you plenty of space to affix identifier patches or accessories.
Modern Icon Tactical Deployment Lead (TDL) provides the operator with a reliable hands-free option that’s built to last and won’t get in the way or generate unintentional feedback to their dog. Traditional hands-free systems include an internal bungee cord to prevent the dog from tugging on the handler, which affects the handler’s sight alignment and shot placement. The downside is that the dog is getting near constant feedback from the tension on the bungee.
The decision to leave the bungee out came from input we received from handlers wanting a hands-free option that didn’t generate that unintentional feedback to their dog. This design allows enough slack for your dog to be in a heel on either side. The other benefit is that the handler can give feedback to their dog by pivoting their hips to take up the slack and tension on the dog.
To attach the lead to the handler, this lead uses a heavy duty Quick Release Snap Shackle that’s strength rated for climbing applications. Instead of the standard belt loop system found in similar designs, this design was inspired by daisy chains used in operational climbing and rope rescue and created a large sewn loop out of mil-spec climbing rated webbing. This allows the handler to simply thread the bite of webbing through any spot on their duty belt or through Molle on their chest rig and simply pass the snap shackle back through for a secure attachment point. The snap shackle will also work with any of our 4 foot, 6 foot, or waist leads by clipping through the 1.5″ clip-in points on the leads body.
The K9 Patrol Harness is purpose-built to handle the rigors of all day wear and tear. Its simple design makes it easy to use and it has everything you need—without all of the unnecessary bells and whistles. It’s constructed of mil-spec 1 ¾” webbing, most commonly used in parachute harnesses, which is quick drying, mold and mildew resistant and strength rated to 7,000 lbs.
The 1 3/4″ ISC Whales Klick-Lock buckle provides a secure and redundant attachment point that can be quickly detached but has recessed buttons that prevent accidental unclippings when grabbed at the buckle by the handler or a suspect. The mil-spec V-Ring clip-in point is located at the shoulder blade apex and is strength rated to 6,000 lbs. It can be clipped with any commercially available attachment option including large diameter climbing carabiners. The use of Velcro covered Molle on the left and right sides of the harness allows the handler to attach accessories, pouches or affix department or unit identifiers.
This harness has not been strength rated for rappelling.
This product was created out of a design partnership between Modern Icon and Todd Thompson of Warrior Laboratories, LLC. As a full-time LEO K9 Handler of 15 years in a high crime area in Colorado, Todd had the idea of creating a safe alternative for handlers to use on high risk traffic stops where the necessity to keep your eyes on the suspect can mean the difference between life and death.
The Patent Pending design is an industry first; offering the handler the option of always having a lead attached to their dog yet never having to worry about it getting in their way when it’s not in use. This allows you to clip the lead to the dog with the traditional clip-in options you’re accustomed to, while the body of the traffic length lead remains safely stowed in an elastic housing.
The break away attachment strap allows you to then affix the lead to any commercially available harness or collar and does not require modifications to your existing gear. The red pull tab provides a quick reference point for where to grab and once you have decided on where to attach the lead, using it becomes second nature allowing you to keep your eyes on target and get your dog in the fight.
Because you can select the clip-in point that best fits your needs and since there are no moving parts, this product will comply with the most restrictive departmental policies.
STANDARD CLIP-IN OPTIONS: Select whatever clip-in option you are familiar with or that your department requires.
BREAK AWAY ATTACHMENT: Break away attachment strip uses a Velcro system to provide you with multiple means of connection to your dog's harness or collar, and is user-replaceable if the Velcro wears out over time.
ELASTIC HOUSING: Provides a secure location to stow your lead once it's been folded properly, keeping it from unraveling unless needed.
QUICK REFERENCE PULL TAB: Integrated Red Pull Tab makes it easy to identify where to grab to deploy the lead—even under stressful conditions. Just grab the Red Tab and pull; the tension will unroll the lead and break the Velcro attachment loop from its location, allowing the lead to swivel freely.
Designed to meet the strictest requirements for a K9 tracking harness, we started by using mil-spec 1 ¾” webbing, most commonly used in parachute harnesses, which is quick drying, mold and mildew resistant and strength rated to 7,000 lbs. Using the Patrol Harness as the design foundation, and added a strap and ISC Klick-Lock buckle in the rear to add support for the K9 so that they can be safely lifted over obstacles, as well as preventing them from being able to back out of their harness. A V-Ring on the rear of the harness as well as the shoulder blade apex gives the handler multiple clip-in options, and also allows the handler to clip the harness into their chest rig if a dog needs to be carried by the handler.
The V-Rings are strength rated to 6,000 lbs and can be clipped with any commercially available attachment option including large diameter climbing carabiners. The 1 3/4″ ISC Whales Klick-Lock buckle provides a secure and redundant attachment point that can be quickly detached but has recessed buttons that prevent accidental unclipping when grabbed at the buckle by the handler or a suspect. The use of Velcro covered Molle on the left and right sides of the harness allows the handler to attach accessories, pouches or affix department or unit identifiers. This harness has not been strength rated for rappelling.
